Preparing Online School Students for Graduation in North Carolina

North Carolina Connections Academy works closely with families to ensure that students understand graduation requirements in North Carolina and have the support they need to fulfill those requirements. Our comprehensive high school curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the classroom—long after graduation.

Students who attend online school and meet North Carolina graduation requirements receive the same diploma as their peers who attend brick-and-mortar public schools in the state.

How Many Credits Do You Need to Graduate High School in North Carolina?

Students must successfully earn a minimum of 24 credits to graduate. Be sure to check your school handbook for updates.

North Carolina Connections Academy High School Credit Requirements

  • Language arts: 4 credits
  • Math: 4 credits (including Algebra and Geometry)
  • Science: 3 credits (including Biology)
  • Social studies: 3 credits (including U.S. History, Government, Economics)
  • Physical education: 1 credit
  • Health: .5 credit
  • Technology: 1 credit
  • World Language (Humanities) or Career Technical Education: 1 credit
  • Personal Finance: .5 credit (starting for students entering 9th grade in 23-24)
  • Additional electives are required: 6 credits
