We begin by understanding each student’s personality, passions and concerns, and work with them to build a course schedule and ongoing learning path that fits who they are as a student and individual. It’s an approach that sees curriculum as opportunity. And it makes sure that, even as your child stays on track to advance from one grade to the next, they’re following their passions, learning about themselves and growing into a strong and capable person.

Adapting Online Learning to Fit Your Child
From dreamers to doers—from quiet thinkers to outgoing explorers—every student at Michigan Connections Academy is unique. And we embrace that uniqueness.
When your child enrolls in our online program, they’ll receive one-on-one attention focused on nurturing their strengths and helping them overcome the challenges they face. We call this Personalized Performance Learning®. And it’s designed to fit who your child is and adapt with them as they change, grow and flourish.
When putting together and following your child’s Personalized Performance Learning plan, we:
- Review Their Background and Learning Needs, ensuring we understand who they are, what passions they want to pursue and what challenges they may face.
- Test Performance three times a year to get a sense of where they are in their learning, how they’re progressing and where they may need extra support.
- Find the Right Courses and Placement, connecting your child with the classes that fit them best.
- Set Goals to give your child, their teachers and you, as their Learning Coach, something to strive for.
- Communicate Regularly to discuss how things are going and whether we need to make any changes.
- Offer Modifications and Electives to ensure your child’s courses are working well with their online learning schedule and daily routine. Follow a more flexible school day

One of the great benefits of online public school is that you, as your child’s Learning Coach, can follow their progress and lend a hand—or give a nudge—whenever they need. But at Michigan Connections Academy, you’ll be far from alone in supporting your child. Teachers will also be there, making sure your child is thriving, and acting quickly if they are struggling. Whether your child just needs some additional resources or whether they could use small group or one-on-one instruction, our teachers will make it happen. So your child can continue toward their goals.
