Bachelor's Degree, Psychology, University of North Carolina at Asheville; Master's Degree, Professional School Counseling, University of Georgia

Sara Tran is assistant director of counseling at Georgia Connections Academy, where she has worked since 2012. Reports Ms. Tran, “My favorite part of my job is seeing the successes of students who otherwise might have fallen through the cracks.”

Why She Became an Educator

“I always knew I wanted to be in a helping profession,” says Ms. Tran. “Since my mom was a kindergarten teacher and my dad was in the mental health field, becoming a school counselor seemed like a natural fit, combining education and caring for the social-emotional health of children. I love helping students become self-driven learners and discover their career paths.

“As an assistant director of counseling, I enjoy working with passionate school counselors and social workers to help them discover their ‘why’ and grow into new leaders. We have an amazingly dedicated department, always willing to put in the extra work to ensure each student succeeds.”

“We’re willing to walk with parents and students hand-in-hand through learning how to be successful at our school. The positive spirit of our staff shines through everything we do.”

The Online School Experience at Georgia Connections Academy

According to Ms. Tran, “Any virtual school requires the parent, student, teachers and staff to work together. We have a full-time, highly qualified staff, but it is important for parents to be fully engaged in our school so they can support their student’s learning.

“Students that successfully graduate from our school have gained the confidence to advocate for themselves and are prepared to be self-driven learners in college, professional training, and their future careers.”
