BA, Human Development and Family Studies, Colorado State University; Teaching License, University of Colorado at Denver

Matt McGuire is an elementary school teacher at Colorado Connections Academy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies from Colorado State University and a teaching license from the University of Colorado at Denver. He became a teacher in 2012 and joined ColoCA in the fall of 2013.

Mr. McGuire says, “I love teaching at Connections Academy for many reasons. I love how you not only get to know students, but also their families. There’s a lot of communication between everyone involved in the students’ lives. Having the ability to individualize students’ learning is another reason why I love working at Colorado Connections Academy. I also enjoy all of the other teachers and staff here. Everyone is supportive, and we like to have fun while teaching.

One of the biggest benefits of working at an online school is the absence of classroom management. When I was in a bricks-and-mortar school, I felt like 90 percent of my energy went to classroom management, and students weren’t getting the academic attention they needed and deserved. At Connections Academy, I can focus all of my energy toward student learning.

“Having the ability to individualize students’ learning is another reason why I love working at Colorado Connections Academy."

Colorado Connections Academy can be a great learning environment for your child. The students who find the most success are those with parents and/or Learning Coaches who are very involved in the learning process. This isn’t a school where you can sit your child down in front of the computer and expect him or her to learn on their own. It takes the involvement of everybody: teachers, students, and Learning Coaches. When everyone is involved, I guarantee students will be successful.”
