Elementary School Principal and Co-Interim School Leader

Kyla Bernstein is an Elementary School Principal at Colorado Connections Academy. She began teaching in 2011 and joined Colorado Connections Academy in 2014. Ms. Bernstein earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado. She also earned two master’s degrees: one from American Public University in elementary reading and one from Colorado State University Global in administration leadership. She shares more about her life and career below:

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a teacher. I remember playing school in my parents’ basement, ‘teaching’ my little brother, stuffed animals, our dogs . . . whoever would listen,” said Ms. Bernstein.

“Moving to Colorado Connections Academy was the best decision I’ve ever made. I love getting to connect with my students and their families on a one-on-one basis and get to serve as their cheerleader. I have seen my students make amazing gains and really succeed in school, and I feel so honored to get to be a part of their journeys.

“I love the individual attention I’m able to give my students in the online environment. When I’m talking with a student, they are my number one priority, and I am able to give them all of my attention. When I was teaching in a brick-and-mortar school, I had over 120 students. There weren’t enough hours in the day to work with each one of them in the way I can here.

"We have some of the best teachers here at Colorado Connections Academy in each and every grade. I have never worked with such a talented, dedicated group of educators whose sole purpose is to ensure students are successful."

“We have some of the best teachers here at Colorado Connections Academy in each and every grade. I have never worked with such a talented, dedicated group of educators whose sole purpose is to ensure students are successful.

“Every single person in the Colorado Connections Academy family is a crucial part of this puzzle we call online school and education. Each individual contributes toward our goal of helping kids be successful. It is amazing to see everyone come together and work toward this goal. Virtual school may not be the easiest thing you’ve ever done, but with parent and student commitment and dedication, it can really work.

“I’m a Colorado native, growing up in the Littleton area. I’m married to my best friend, Zach, and we have two fur babies, Walt and Lily. I love to read and finally have time to read for fun now that I’m not working on more schooling! My husband and I both are Disney fans and love vacationing in Florida.”
