Kyla Bernstein
K-8 Principal
Kyla Bernstein is the K-8 Principal at Colorado Connections Academy. She joined Colorado Connections Academy in 2014 as an elementary teacher and transitioned into school administration in 2020. Ms. Bernstein has dedicated her career to helping students discover a love of learning and is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving students, families, and staff in her current leadership role.
Why I Became an Educator
For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be a teacher. I still remember playing school in my parents' basement, "teaching" my little brother, my stuffed animals, our dogs—anyone who would listen! I've always loved learning so much that I simply couldn't imagine ever leaving school behind. Helping others discover that same love of learning is what inspired me to become an educator.
Engaging Students Online
Moving to the virtual learning environment after teaching in a traditional brick and mortar school was one of the best professional decisions I've ever made. I love the meaningful relationships we're able to build not only with our students but with their families as well. I truly believe we make a lasting difference when students know they have caring adults who believe in them, support them, and are always on their team.
One of the biggest differences is the opportunity to truly personalize each student's educational experience. We take the time to get to know our students and families so we can provide the support and flexibility they need to succeed. For many students, Connections Academy is the place where they discover confidence, find success, and develop a genuine love of learning. After more than a decade at Colorado Connections Academy, one of the greatest joys has been watching students I taught in elementary school walk across the stage at graduation. Seeing them achieve their goals because they found the learning environment that was right for them is incredibly rewarding.
"Helping others discover that same love of learning is what inspired me to become an educator."

Creating a Welcoming Community
It's incredibly important that every student, family, and staff member at Colorado Connections Academy feels seen, valued, and cared for. Our mission reminds us that every student will learn every day and that we will assume positive intentions in every interaction. Those aren't just words—they guide every decision we make and help create a welcoming, supportive community where everyone belongs.
My Favorite Part of the Job
My favorite part of this work is watching students learn, grow, and gain confidence in themselves. As K-8 Principal, it's also a privilege to support our teachers so they can continue making a meaningful impact on students every day. The relationships I've built with so many students and families over the years are something I will always treasure.
Some Personal Interests
I'm a Colorado native who grew up in the Littleton area. My husband, Zach, and I moved to Central Florida in 2021, where we now live just 30 minutes from the theme parks and enjoy visiting them regularly. We share our home with our two beloved rescue dogs, Lily and Stitch. Outside of work, you'll usually find me reading, thrifting, or planning our next Disney adventure.
