Jennifer Shamp
Elementary Reading Interventionist
Jennifer Shamp is a Reading Interventionist and Master Teacher at Colorado Connections Academy. She began her teaching career in 2009 and joined Colorado Connections Academy in 2015. Ms. Shamp received her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and her Master's of Education degree in Behavior and Learning Disorders from Georgia State University.
"Throughout my teaching career, I have enjoyed teaching various subjects supporting students' learning in math, science, and literacy, ranging from Kindergarten to 10th grade. More recently, my focus has been on the science of reading and supporting students with reading and writing in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
While working in my original field of study, Business and Marketing, I began volunteering through several organizations, including Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, Volunteers for America, and Girls on the Run. Through my experiences in each of these organizations, I discovered that education was my passion, so I returned to school to pursue that passion and became a teacher.
What I love about teaching online is the ability to connect with the students and their families. This approach helps us build a community of learners while working together to succeed. During my live lessons, students share what they know on their whiteboards with their learning coaches beside them, giving high-fives!

Families at Colorado Connections Academy will help their students succeed by taking advantage of the many opportunities available to make connections through engaging coursework and live lessons, working closely with their learning coach, teachers, and Colorado Connections Academy staff, participating in and building peer support with clubs and activities, and attending virtual and in-person field trips.
I remember a time when I worked closely with a student in elementary school to help her in some areas she was struggling. Later on, when she was in middle school, ready to move into high school, I had the opportunity to work with her again, but this time on a fun, extracurricular film project. I loved seeing how much she had grown into the person she wanted to become, using the skills she had gained to help write and perform a script with her peers for a middle school graduation music video. These are just a few ways we are making connections with our students and families.
When I am not working on education-related tasks, I spend time playing with my puppy at Chatfield Reservoir. I also enjoy spending time in the Colorado mountains, deserts, prairies, and everywhere in between, learning about wildlife and plants, reading historical fiction, and volunteering as a steward for land conservation.
