Special Education

Jennifer Shamp is a special education teacher and case manager at Colorado Connections Academy. She began her teaching career in 2009 and joined Colorado Connections Academy in 2015. Ms. Shamp received her BS in business administration from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and her MS in behavior and learning disorders from Georgia State University. Learn more about her story below.

"While working at a corporate job, I began volunteering through several organizations, including Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, Volunteers for America, and Girls on the Run. Through my experiences within each of these organizations, I discovered that education was my passion, so I returned to school to pursue that passion and became a teacher.

A family who enrolls in Colorado Connections Academy has taken the time to consider many educational opportunities. When parents dedicate themselves to become Learning Coaches for their student, they have a vested level of interest in their child’s learning. I enjoy being an integral part of the learning dynamics for the entire family.

The flexibility at Colorado Connections Academy allows students to apply their learning to everyday occurrences, whether that happens on a farm, in the garage, or while traveling or on an adventure. Because Colorado Connections Academy is a virtual school, there are more opportunities for students to connect with others than there are in a bricks-and-mortar setting.

— Ms. Shamp

Outside of teaching, I often travel to visit my siblings, who are in the military. I go all throughout the country, including Hawaii and Alaska. When I am not traveling to visit family, I am exploring new hiking and backpacking trails all over the world. Journaling and being inspired by other people’s stories are the things that keep me balanced. Life is short; I enjoy being in good company."
