Patrice Nield is a secondary english language arts teacher at Wyoming Connections Academy (WYCA). She earned a bachelor’s degree from Montana State University Billings and a master’s degree from the University of Wyoming. Ms. Nield began teaching in 1989 and joined WYCA in 2013. She shares her story below.
“I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference—I think I was born to teach. My second grade teacher even predicted that I would be a teacher someday. The job is different every day, and I enjoy that. Watching students experience those ‘light bulb’ moments is what makes this the most fulfilling job in the world.
I love the challenge of teaching in a virtual school. It has made me re-think my teaching techniques and helped me to get to know my students so much better. In a virtual school, the students can take more time to really dig deeper into the subject, which allows me to assess each of their needs. An education at WYCA prepares students to be self-motivated learners who are comfortable in the ever-increasing virtual world.
The entire WYCA team is focused on helping every student to be successful. This includes WYCA staff, the Learning Coach, and the student. One thing that I would tell a prospective parent is that this is a great fit for many students, but it is important to research the program carefully to make sure it is the right fit for your family.”
In her free time, Ms. Nield enjoys hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and spending time with her family.
