High School English Language Arts Teacher
Shelby Jupiter is a high school English language arts teacher at Washington Connections Academy. She began teaching in 2013 and joined Washington Connections Academy in 2017. She received her bachelor’s degree in English literature from Gonzaga University. She shares more about her experience below:
“I have always wanted to be a teacher. When I was traveling overseas, I remembered that passion while living in a rural village of Fiji. My Fijian sisters dreamed of coming to the United States to go to school, so I helped teach them English. Seeing them so excited to learn reminded me why I love to teach.
I love being able to work one-on-one with students at Washington Connections Academy. It helps me be able to build relationships with my students and families and to best work with each of them with their educational journey and goals.
"I love being able to work one-on-one with students at Washington Connections Academy."
— Ms. Jupiter
Unlike in a brick-and-mortar school, I have time to work more individually with students to better assist them with their schoolwork. I am also able to know more about my students in this online format because I am not limited to talking about my class subject. Because of our online format, I can help students on a more well-rounded basis and answer questions that pertain to their overall success at Washington Connections Academy.
When I am not teaching, I can be found hanging out with my dog, Scoobert, playing video games, or baking. I like to rock climb, listen to music, and read!”
