Meet Our Washington Connections Academy School Leader
Michael Lunde is the principal of Washington Connections Academy (WACA). Mr. Lunde began his career in education in 2004 at Teton County School District in Jackson, Wyoming where he helped establish effective online learning practices for a variety of students' needs. He also coached track and cross country for 8 seasons. Excited by the opportunities he saw for students in online learning, he joined Wyoming Connection Academy (WCA) in 2009. At WCA, he taught social studies before serving as assistant principal. During a period as interim principal of Wyoming Connections Academy, Mr. Lunde developed teacher collaboration by establishing data-driven, goal based professional learning communities.
Mr. Lunde has been with Washington Connections Academy since it opened in 2016. He is passionate about online learning because it provides opportunities for all students to grow in ways that engage their own learning styles. “The ability to individualize learning for each student is so much greater. Teachers have the ability to connect with each student one-to-one on a regular basis,” Mr. Lunde says. He has said that he wishes Connections Academy was around when he was a student.
Mr. Lunde holds a master of arts degree in education from the University of Wyoming. Outside of school, Mr. Lunde loves spending time with his family: his wife, two children, and a dog. He also enjoys reading, playing music, skiing, running, and coaching youth sports.
