Third Grade Teacher
Ms. Heineck is a third grade teacher at Utah Connections Academy. She shares her story below:
“I came to Utah Connections Academy to teach third grade because I liked the community, and the strong academic programs that the school offers. Being a virtual teacher is a unique opportunity because I get to spend time focusing on the diverse needs of my students, while enjoying a more flexible teaching schedule than I had in a brick and mortar school. I also enjoy working closely with parents, who I believe are the primary educators of their children.
This is my 15th year of teaching. I taught middle school for 11 years (4 years in the Salt Lake area and 7 years in Milwaukie, Oregon) before moving down to elementary (grades 3-5). I have also taught high school English (summer term).
"I enjoy working closely with parents, who I believe are the primary educators of their children."

Outside of teaching and running, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, baking, watching movies, college basketball, hiking, swimming, and playing board games with my oldest daughter.
I spent most of my childhood in Charleston, SC. However, I have lived in NY, CT, PA, SC, UT, and now OR. I have two daughters and one lazy cat. I also competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and ran the Olympic B standard in Boston. I didn't make the Olympic team, but it was fun trying!"
