Sherri Kunzler is the mother and Learning Coach to Jaydenn, an elementary student at Utah Connections Academy (UCA). The Kunzler family is happy with UCA’s flexible schedule and great curriculum. When they found UCA, they knew that it was the best choice for Jaydenn. Sherri shares more of their story below.
"We come from a family of educators: elementary teachers, principals, and college professors. Education is important to us, as is a healthy and happy family life. Out of all the schools we visited or studied, Connections Academy was the one we felt offered the best choices and opportunities for Jaydenn; now and long term.
We chose to school our daughter at home after the frustration that we experienced from trying to juggle a long traditional school day with homework, lessons, church, family, and no free time. As a mother, I was stressed over finding the right material to teach Jaydenn. Through many hours of research, I learned that we could have the best of both worlds by participating in an online public school. Plus, there are a variety of extracurricular classes and clubs to choose from, in addition to strong and engaging daily curriculum.
I found that all my worries and concerns were addressed. UCA teaches Learning Coaches how to guide their students and help foster correct learning habits. Whenever I had a question on what to do or how to do something, help was only a phone call away. Even better, there are multiple videos that teach families how the entire programs work with step-by-step instructions. It was like having someone hold my hand and walk me through the unfamiliar process. A highlight to the end of summer and the beginning of school is receiving a box from UCA with all the supplies for the year, which includes an art kit, science kit, and jump rope!
Ms. Norton is Jaydenn's teacher this year and she has been a life saver. We added a few extra classes to try them out and see if it could fit into our crazy schedule. She encouraged us to give it a try! The art class is fantastic and Jaydenn thoroughly enjoyed it. We used it as a weekend class. The staff wants to see the students succeed and have confidence in their learning abilities. I would give Ms. Norton an A+ for helping us figure out what works best for our daughter. Whenever I send an email, I get a quick response.
Our daughter Jaydenn is the last of six children. All of her siblings are married and out of the home. We like to travel to visit our grandchildren who are Jaydenn’s nieces and nephews. This would not be possible at all in a traditional school system. At UCA, Jaydenn can travel with us and complete schoolwork on the plane, hotels, or wherever we are. Nothing is better than a real life field trip to New York!! It just happened to tie right in with social studies."
