Utah Connections Academy Leadership
Special Education Manager
I began my career in education as a 5th grade teacher in Keller ISD, Keller, TX, where I spent 14 years, working as a 5th grade teacher and school counselor. After leaving Keller ISD, I moved to New Mexico and went to work for Alamogordo Public Schools, Alamogordo, NM. After spending 10 years in Alamogordo, working as Behavior Intervention Specialist, School Counselor, Crisis Response Coordinator, Educational Diagnostician, Special Education Coordinator, and Director of Special Education, I made the move to Roswell Independent School District, Roswell, NM. In Roswell, I worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services. Prior to coming to Utah Connections Academy, I spent a year working as Associate Director of Related Services, Denver Public Schools, Denver, CO.
I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, Marketing, degree from Texas Tech University in 1989, and a Master of Education, School Counseling, degree from Texas Christian University in 2002. In addition, I have completed Post-Master’s work in Educational Diagnostics and Educational Leadership from the University of the Southwest.
During my time at UCA, I have enjoyed watching students and families create flexible schedules while attending a public school! I believe UCA creates an atmosphere that is welcoming and inclusive, and these attitudes are shared during welcome calls and LiveLessons. I truly enjoy the processes that are in place for collaboration with students, families, and staff. As a special educator, I believe it is this collaboration that allows us to individualize our instruction for each student. UCA embodies my philosophy...special education is a service, not a place!
