Sarah Flores
Spanish Teacher
Sarah Salazar teaches Spanish at Texas Connections Academy @ Houston and has been with the school for nine years. Sarah is not just a teacher, she is also the parent of two TCAH students, recent graduate Sara Gabriela (18) and Alejandra (16).
Prior to joining TCAH, Sarah taught in the Houston Independent School District, but her ability to teach in a traditional classroom setting was compromised after she had Guillain-Barre Syndrome in 2014. Sarah decided online teaching might be a better option for her as there would be less time standing on her feet and walking.
After two years at TCAH, Sarah and her husband, Luis, decided that TCAH would provide their daughters a high-quality education and allow them to continue their studies of Mandarin Chinese. Both girls are already fluent in English and Spanish.
TCAH has not only allowed the family the ability to tailor their language-learning but pursue other interests as well. Both girls are active in sports including tennis, volleyball, basketball, ping-pong, and running. Sara completed her first half-marathon and is currently training for a full marathon. They both enjoy singing and volunteer at a Chinese church where Sara Gabriela plays the violin and Alejandra plays the piano.
TCAH has also prepared them for college. Both girls are independent learners and have taken advanced courses placing them in the top 1% in their respective classes. Sara Gabriela will be heading off to the University of Houston on a full-ride, tier-one scholarship to pursue a BBA in Marketing and BA in Chinese Studies. Alejandra will be finishing 12th grade this school year at TCAH and hopes to attend a school in-state and study medicine.
All of the Salazars appreciate the amount of family time they get as online learners and educators.
