Amy Aguilar joined Texas Connections Academy @ Houston in 2010. As the mother of a son with special learning needs, she takes great joy in helping all children succeed. Ms. Aguilar shares her story below.
Why I Became an Educator
My son had special learning needs, and through that experience as a parent, I was inspired to change my educational pathway from law and psychology to education. Being part of a team that supports a student’s flourishing while putting a smile on their face is the ultimate reward for making a difference in our students’ lives.
What I love about working with students at Texas Connections Academy @ Houston is our student diversity. Each student has their story to share, aspirations to achieve, and gifts to share within our local and global communities. It’s exciting to be a part of that journey with them.
The Online School Experience at Texas Connections Academy
The old proverb “it takes a village to raise a child” translates here, as it takes our full student support team to support our students. Each of us, from the student to the parent to the educational staff, works together to provide the lift our students need to soar.
We do this through strong communication and engagement, using all our tools to keep us connected, whether it’s by phone, LiveLesson® sessions, WebMail, texts, or face-to-face opportunities. Connecting with our families and staff to help our students achieve their goals and excel is rewarding.
Texas Connections Academy @ Houston provides great flexibility and individualization. This helps prepare students for a bright future through personalized instruction that helps build the strong skills students need to move forward and go beyond high school.
