Ashley Eden

High School Math Teacher

She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a secondary certification from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Eden earned her master’s degree in 21st Century Teaching and Learning from Wilkes University. She shares her story below:

Ashley Eden is a high school math teacher at Tennessee Connections Academy. Ms. Eden joined Tennessee Connections Academy in 2019 as a secondary school teacher.

"I had a set of really amazing teachers in middle school. My mom married and divorced in seventh grade, moving me out of my school (and then back again)! It was a rough year, and I struggled with a lot of emotions. My middle school teachers were there for me when I felt like nobody else was. I wanted to be that person to a student when I grew up."

At Tennessee Connections Academy, Ms. Eden loves spending one-on-one time with students. She says, “I think the biggest thing I have noticed is that I can make more time with students in a tutoring-type session. My whole day doesn’t revolve around a classroom, so I can spend those hours working with students in small groups or one-on-one. Students need to put in more work on their own, but they work directly with their teachers a lot more easily than in a brick-and-mortar setting. My favorite part is talking to students on the phone or in LiveLesson® sessions and getting to know and help them!

My favorite part is talking to students on the phone or in LiveLesson® sessions and getting to know and help them!My favorite part of the job is connecting with students. I have much more time to do that here than when I was in a traditional classroom. I can focus on the students and what they need.

Tennessee Connections Academy teaches students how to be independent thinkers and learners, while still understanding that it is okay to ask questions. This is a huge thing in the real world, and I am glad our students are beginning to understand this! The people who ask the best questions in life are the ones that go far!"
