Meet Our Tennessee Connections Academy School Leader
Derek Sanborn began his educational career in 1998 and taught both kindergarten and third grade. He moved into a role as a school-based technology specialist, helping teachers and students successfully integrate technology into their learning environment in elementary, middle, and high schools. He worked as an assistant principal in an urban elementary school and has been an executive principal with Metro Nashville Public Schools for the last four years.
Derek graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor of arts in elementary education and from Middle Tennessee State University with a master’s degree in administration and supervision. He received his juris doctorate from Nashville School of Law in 2006. He practiced for three years as an attorney in Middle Tennessee, working mainly in family and juvenile law, and worked for the Tennessee Department of Human Services as an administrative hearing official before returning to the field of education in 2010.
Derek is married and has four amazing children. He is looking forward to leading Tennessee Connections Academy and providing high-quality educational opportunities for students across Tennessee.
