Gena Lockwood is the grandmother and Learning Coach of Dylan Lockwood, a middle school student at Tennessee Connections Academy. Gena is pleased that Dylan has been improving academically and has been more enthusiastic about school since enrolling. Learn more about the family’s story below:

“I learned about Connections Academy® by searching for ‘home-based schools’ on Google. I was impressed with their online setup as well as the statistics on parent approval. The enrollment team was great and made it easy to enroll.

“Tennessee Connections Academy has proved to be awesome. Learning is as easy as 1-2-3. The school understands the students and wants to see them succeed. The teachers work hard to ensure this happens, and they’re always available. I can easily email them or set up a one-to-one meeting on the phone.

“When Dylan attended a brick-and-mortar school, we couldn’t get the help we needed. He was pushed forward too fast, missed a lot of the lessons, and was failing. He was bullied and called names. With online schooling, Dylan has been receiving the help he needs and has a Learning Coach who can assist him. The proof is that his grades have increased dramatically. Dylan is now getting As and Bs, when he was previously receiving failing grades at his other school.

“The program allows me to move at the student’s pace, and Dylan enjoys the ability to relisten to the recorded live lessons. The portfolio assignments for science have been fun, as we have done experiments together. Thank goodness we didn’t burn the house down (just kidding)!

“Outside of school, Dylan likes to create rap music. He’s working with another young rap artist and they’re writing new songs together. He also enjoys roller-skating with friends, going to movies, playing computer games, and making up new games on the computer. Dylan keeps in touch with friends by talking to them on the phone and chatting with them on the internet.”
