Nikki Jansen is a graduate of South Carolina Connections Academy (SCCA). Nikki’s many interests include designing clothes and costumes, writing, and when she is not doing schoolwork, she works as a fashion model. Because of her busy travel schedule, SCCA proved to be the perfect choice for Nikki. She shares more of her story below.
“I decided to enroll in SCCA as a high school student because SCCA’s flexible schedule and rich curriculum were a perfect fit for me. I am signed with an international modeling agency, have walked in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and have been featured in magazines. I travel a lot because of my career as a model, and my former traditional public high school was not able to accommodate frequent absences. With Connections Academy, it was never a problem. I took my laptop with me wherever I went and worked at my own speed. Thanks to SCCA, I was able to graduate from high school a year early and maintain a 4.4 GPA.
I have two sisters, one who is a year younger and one who is my twin. The three of us love working together to create many exciting projects. Together, we have earned several regional science fair awards and participated in school plays. My sisters and I used to run a literary summer camp for kids from our home, and we also maintained and published a newsletter for three consecutive summers. In the newsletter, our classmates could submit stories and write reviews for movies and books, or create articles related to their own interests. I have created films with my friends using my own scripts, where I was responsible for scouting out locations, casting roles, arranging wardrobe and makeup, creating the schedule, and organizing transportation. My other interests have included karate, swimming, and participating in foil fencing competitions.
One of my greatest passions is working for charities and helping others. Together, my sisters and I have raised more than $2000 for Hurricane Katrina relief. In addition to working as a fashion model, I have helped raise money for charity at fashion events.
I am also passionate about visual arts. My younger sister and I run a small photography business, connecting with talent from several local agencies. We test-shoot for model portfolios, actor head shots, and even single release covers for rising singers. I explored different art colleges and got accepted in my first choice school, Savannah College for Arts and Design, and received two scholarships. I would be most happy studying art, design, and fashion. I would love to establish future contacts through my ongoing modeling career and eventually work in the fashion industry. I wish to create my own brands and then branch out into charity work. Improving the world through my work is my lifelong goal.”
