Carter Davis

Carter Davis is an elementary school student in a California Connections Academy-supported school. Before enrolling, Carter attended a bricks-and-mortar school but struggled to connect with the curriculum and make progress. That’s where Connections Academy entered the picture. His family realized that he had a different learning style and that a traditional public school setting could not accommodate his needs.

“Connections Academy helped me see that I can do things differently than most people,” said Carter. “I am learning self-discipline and how to be independent. I have textbooks, a computer, and materials to help me learn. I also have a teacher that I talk to every two weeks. Because I have scheduling flexibility, I work out every morning, travel a lot, and learn in various places. I also meet with other families that use alternative methods of education.”

Connections Academy has helped Carter grow into a goal-oriented young man. “I want to be an entrepreneur and a YouTube gamer, make the honor roll, have friends, and, did I mention being a top YouTube gamer?”

Bionca Smith, Parent

A traditional public school was not working for California Connections Academy elementary-school student Carter Davis and his mom, Bionca Smith, an entrepreneur and blogger who wanted to be more involved in her child’s education. She felt disconnected from what Carter was learning, similarly to how her child felt enrolled in a traditional school setting. Carter struggled to relate to the curriculum and make progress. Connections Academy changed all that. Here is how Bionca views Connections Academy’s impact on her family:

“The flexibility that we get from Connections Academy has been a lifesaver for me as a single mom and entrepreneur. Now, my son and I work side by side, and I don’t have to worry about not being able to spend enough quality time with my child. With Connections Academy, kids are better able to explore passions that they may not have discovered until later in life.

I’d recommend every family seek alternative forms of education and find the one that matches the needs and interests of their children and family lifestyle. We don’t all live and learn the same way, and parents may be surprised to find that alternatives can work better and can help their family meet their goals.

Connections Academy almost seems too good to be true because of the abundance of support and learning tools that they provide. Their program and structure enable a child to gain skills that aren’t taught in traditional schooling, which is priceless and transferable to all areas of life now and in the future.”
