Kari Shaffer is an elementary school teacher at Reach Cyber Charter School (Reach Cyber). She is working on her master’s degree in reading as well as a reading specialist certification from Wilkes University. Ms. Shaffer joined the Reach Cyber team in 2016 after previously teaching in traditional public schools. She shares below what she likes about teaching at Reach Cyber.
“I wanted to become a teacher to help students set goals and meet those goals. I highly value education and wanted to be a part of helping a student to grow and learn. I want students to be excited about school and their own learning.
My fourth grade teacher, Ms. Carrol, made each of her students feel special and like they were ‘the favorite.’ She always had such a fun, positive attitude. I’ll never forget how special she made me feel. Now that I teach at Reach Cyber, I love the connections we are able to build with our students and families. I also love any time I get to teach students to love reading. The journey of following a student from a nonreader in the beginning of the year to a reader at the end is an amazing one!”
Outside of teaching, Ms. Shaffer can be found knitting, kayaking, reading, hiking, biking, and spending time with her loved ones.
