Carrie Dean is a Learning Coach for her son, Justus, who is a kindergarten student at Pecos Connections Academy (PCA). She is pleased that PCA allows her to be actively involved in her son’s academic journey. Carrie shares more about her and family’s online learning experience at PCA below:
"I first learned of PCA when I received an email introducing New Mexico's new virtual school. This was exciting news, and I started the application process from my phone at that moment! We love the flexibility of this virtual school, because it allows my son to be involved in many social and extracurricular activities with a local public and private school, and homeschool students.
Among other activities, he has participated in mid-week piano lessons, a weekly ski club, and a weekly history/geography program, which wouldn’t have been possible in a traditional bricks-and-mortar-school setting. We appreciate the PCA field trips, where we enjoy the camaraderie of other children, parents, Learning Coaches, and PCA teachers. We love to spend time observing nature and playing with friends.
Being a Learning Coach is rewarding because I’m able to watch my son learn and develop before my eyes, as he studies new concepts and masters new skills. One thing I appreciate about PCA is the accessibility of the teachers and staff. I have emailed our school principal several times and received a prompt, thorough, and helpful response. We routinely touch base with my son's teacher through emails, phone calls, and even text messages on occasion. I am grateful that PCA has given our family a wonderful opportunity to learn, grow, and play together as a team!"
