Why I love teaching
“I come from a family of educators, but never expected be a teacher myself. After working in a variety of careers, I discovered a passion for reading and a love of writing, so I knew it was time to get back into a classroom and finally share that passion with a new generation of readers and writers.
The benefits of online learning
Teaching online frees me and my students from the restrictions of the bell system in brick-and-mortar schools. If a student “gets it” right away, we can easily move on to something else or if they need more time, we can continue working without worrying about being late for another class. It’s a much more real-world experience where students and teachers have the autonomy to organize their time and resources in a way that best meets the students’ needs.
I try to be very transparent with my students about my own struggles in high school and the challenges and successes I’ve had in life. I find that this opens the door to more willingness to interact, and more openness to making mistakes in the classroom—a vital component of learning.
I don’t think anyone would argue the fact that the future of work is moving toward more technology based. Willamette Connections Academy is the perfect launchpad for those real-world skills. It also gives students the opportunity to learn self-motivation, time management, and communication skills that will be vital in our new economy.
“A classroom experience is only as good as the teacher, and we have some of the best teachers I’ve ever worked with here at Willamette Connections Academy.”

Message for prospective families
A classroom experience is only as good as the teacher, and we have some of the best teachers I’ve ever worked with here at Willamette Connections Academy. They are always putting their students first, always reimagining their teaching tools and curriculum to best meet students’ needs and work tirelessly to improve their craft.
In my free time, I love to explore the beaches of the Oregon Coast, play fetch with my little border terrier, Finn, and read great books, but my true passion is writing.”
