Chris Robbins is a science teacher at Willamette Connections Academy (WillCA). He began teaching in 2015 and joined Connections Academy® in 2020. Mr. Robbins earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a master’s degree in teaching from Sierra Nevada University. He shares his story below:
“I became a teacher because I wanted to work with young people to help them be successful in science. I loved learning about science in school, and I wanted to instill a love of science in my students. I started my career teaching chemistry in Las Vegas at Legacy High School. I have taught eighth grade science for the past three years at Nevada Connections Academy. This is my first year at Willamette Connections Academy.
“What I love about teaching at Connections Academy is the ability to individualize the curriculum to meet the needs of the student.
“One of the benefits of teaching at an online school is the ability to teach students outside of my community. Teaching at Connections Academy allows me to teach students across the state. I like to learn about where the students are from and what goes on in their part of the state.
“An education at Connections Academy is a team effort between the parents, the student, and the teacher. Successful students at Connections Academy have strong parental support to help guide them in their education.
“When I’m not working, I am hanging out with my family. My wife and I have two sons. Our oldest is three and our youngest is one. I like to camp, snowboard, ski, collect rocks, and hang out at Lake Tahoe.”
What I love about teaching at Connections Academy is the ability to individualize the curriculum to meet the needs of the student.
