Oregon Online School Field Trips

Bringing Lessons and Friendships to Life

Oregon Connections Academy (ORCA) virtual school offers field trips throughout the year that are both educational and fun. Community coordinators, parents, and teachers arrange trips to venues such as museums, historic sites, botanical gardens, state parks, and even non-school-related outings like picnics, roller skating, and more!

On previous field trips throughout Oregon, our students explored the following worlds:

Nature, at:

  • Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area
  • Oregon Coast Aquarium
  • Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery
  • Portland Japanese Gardens
  • Snowshoeing in Bend
  • Outdoor School with Fifth and Sixth Graders

Work, at:

  • News-Review newspaper
  • La Grande Fire Station
  • Roseburg Hospital
  • Coast Guard Air Station

History, Culture, and Science, at:

  • Historic Elsinore Theater
  • Oregon Trail Interpretive Center
  • Astoria Maritime Museum
  • OMSI Chemistry and Biology Labs
  • Linus Pauling Lecture Series

Virtual school field trips are excellent opportunities to meet other parents, students, and teachers face-to-face, but they also provide an opportunity to round out the virtual school experience in real-world ways. Through field trips, students learn life lessons that build upon their course lessons while also making meaningful connections with their peers.

Exploring College and Beyond

ORCA offers field trips to colleges and universities, college fairs, and even businesses for online middle and high school students so they may explore and prepare for the future. The optional Career Club allows students to learn about potential careers and explore fields that interest them, while the College Planning Club guides high school students through the college preparation and admissions process.
