“I have been so pleased with Oregon Connections Academy (ORCA). We initially chose Connections Academy because my oldest son needed an academic challenge, as he had been incredibly bored at the local private school he had attended from kindergarten through fifth grade. I was so relieved to find out that he could do math a year ahead of his grade level, since ORCA’s curriculum and placement can be tailored to fit your child’s academic needs. He has completed sixth and seventh grade at Connections Academy and is now an eighth grader. We recently enrolled our third grade son, who is enjoying being a Connections Academy student.
We have had excellent experiences with all the teachers. We also enjoy many of the regional and school wide sponsored events. We know many families in our town who are also enrolled in ORCA, so we have regular playdates, and take learning field trips together. I love the flexibility of the program, as I can tailor the weekly schedule to fit my family’s needs. This allows us to take advantage of midweek learning offerings at so many of our local museums. We also do art lessons as a family on Saturday mornings, which allows Dad to participate in some of the great activities as well. The flexibility also allows our boys to have more time for extracurricular activities like music, snowboarding, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and youth group.
As a person with a BA in elementary education and special education, I am a tough critic when it comes to curriculum and program. I had considered many different options for my children, but I feel that, out of all of the choices available to us, Connections Academy has served them best. Providing a top-rated curriculum, excellent and caring teachers, creative portfolio projects, math placement at the student’s ability level, and an excellent middle school writing program, Connections Academy has served our kids beautifully. Since enrolling in Connections Academy three years ago, my 13-year-old son’s Stanford Achievement scores have gone up dramatically each year. That is all the proof I need to know that this program is a fit for our kids and family.”
