Naomi Jones is a high school English teacher at Oklahoma Connections Academy (OKCA). She started teaching in 2011 and joined OKCA in 2013. She earned her associate degree in English from Rogers State University and a bachelor’s degree in English education from Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Ms. Jones shares her story below:
“I became a teacher because of the example set by my grandmother and mother. They are both fantastic educators,” said Ms. Jones. “I love teaching at OKCA because I love working with a dedicated team of teachers, and I have the best students!
With online school I have much more time to work with my students individually than I did in a bricks-and-mortar school. I also talk to my students’ parents more frequently in the online environment. OKCA students are prepared for their futures because they have learned independence and initiative through the rigorous courses that they have completed,” she said.
Ms. Jones gets to see firsthand how special the OKCA community is, especially in welcoming new students to the program. “My current students are always so welcoming to new students! If there was one thing that I would tell a prospective parent as they are making the decision to enroll in a school, it would be that there are so many educational opportunities available for students today. With personalized instruction and dedicated teachers, OKCA might be the best fit for your student!”
In her spare time Ms. Jones enjoys playing basketball and disc golf, as well as spending time with her family. She also does a lot of reading and watching classic movies and TV shows.
