Mrs. Schaurer teaches 10th grade English at Great River Connections Academy. She has been teaching since 2000 and joined Great River Connections Academy in 2019. Mrs. Schaurer shares more below.

Why I Became a Teacher

I knew I wanted to be a teacher in the 6th grade. I had an amazing teacher, and she pushed me into a higher math class because of her belief in me. My 6th grade teacher and my 7th/8th grade math teacher changed my life. These two teachers believed in me, and they took the extra time to help and encourage me. I continually choose this profession because I want to give back what was given to me.

The Online School Experience at Great River Connections Academy

I love the culture at Great River Connections Academy; the teachers and staff genuinely care about students and one another. I taught for twelve years at a brick-and-mortar school, and this is my ninth year of teaching at an online school; I have found that more personalized instruction is possible online, and when students reach out, great relationships can form. School choice is necessary; online education isn't for everyone, but it is a wonderful option for many students.

Our LiveLesson® sessions encourage active student participation and interaction; our relationships with our homeroom students help to hold students to high standards, and our English writings and independent readings help students connect their real lives to literary works.

My Interests

When I’m not teaching, I’m spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy working out, baking, reading, and enjoying endless cups of good tea!

"Great River Connections Academy provides wonderful teachers ready to challenge students to perform their best in every subject."
