My Teaching Background and Experience

The last 5 years I taught at a brick-and-mortar school. I spent two years teaching middle school English and then moved into the co-teaching environment as an intervention specialist in middle and high school for 2 years. My last year in the brick and mortar, before joining Connections Academy, was in the high school multi-handicap classroom. I joined Great River Connections Academy in 2020 and I will say that this is the first time that when I get up in the morning that I don't feel the pressure of a "job" because I truly love what I do and the people that I work with.

Why I Became an Educator

I became a teacher later in life when I decided to pursue my college degree in nutrition, but I fell in love with the students I was working with at the time subbing at my kid's school district. I was a substitute working while getting my degree in the multi-handicap classroom and knew that was where my heart needed to be. Although nutrition was my passion, I felt the need to work with students and show everyone that they can do and learn just like everyone else no matter what struggles they face.

The Benefits of K-12 Online Learning

Students learn that communication within the team is a key component just like in a job. Responsibility in their work, completing it and staying on track is in their hands which also builds skills they need after high school whether going to college or seeking employment. We are here to provide them with the best education and their education lies within their own hands.

"If you want something and work hard for it, you can do whatever it is that you want to do."
