Stay-at-home mom Maria Quinn is thrilled about Ohio Connections Academy (OCA). She enjoys watching her two kids grow in front of her eyes and sharing in their enrichment. Learn more about her story below:
"My name is Maria Quinn and I am from Cleveland, Ohio. I am a stay-at-home mom, which includes being a Learning Coach to our two children, Shamar and Marshawney.
We learned about OCA by doing research online for an online public charter K–12 school. Our son Shamar was with another online public charter school for a little over a year, but since it did not offer kindergarten and we wanted our son and daughter to attend the same online school, we chose Ohio Connections Academy.
We chose Connections Academy because to us it was the best of three worlds our family was looking for and needed.
Connections Academy offered the financial freedom of a public school, the one-on-one teacher- to student ratio of an elite private or Montessori School, and the comfort of home found in homeschooling.
I am the kind of mother who would go with my children to school every day and be their personal assistant to help them and their teacher. But of course I could not do that in a bricks-and-mortar school. With OCA, however, I can go to school with my children every day. I know exactly what they are doing and who they are with.
I like the one-on-one personalized attention, and if I or my children need help, OCA teachers are just a WebMail or phone call away.
OCA is always making improvements—they want parent and student feedback, and they use that feedback to make the school better each year. They are connected—that’s what I like about OCA."
Our success with the OCA program is great! Why? Our children are extremely happy with their personal lives and academics. Even though OCA is working for us, I still ask them if they would like to go to a bricks-and-mortar school from time to time. The answer is always a NO. You can’t get any more successful than that!
