Joseph Gibbons is the high school biology teacher at North Carolina Connections Academy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in teaching, both from Southern Illinois University. Mr. Gibbons began his teaching career in 2010 and started teaching at Connections Academy in 2018. Read below to learn more about his background in teaching:
“After graduating with my bachelor's degree, I worked for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for a year. I quickly realized that research was not something that I was interested in, so I started substitute teaching. I loved it! So, I went back to school and obtained my master’s in teaching. Since then, I have taught six years at a traditional public school in Illinois and two years in San Diego, teaching high school science and junior high math.
I love teaching at North Carolina Connections Academy because I love the flexibility of teaching using modern technology that fits the needs of our student population. Students are able to have a flexible schedule and are able to focus on the subject content. Each student who is college bound or ready to enter the workforce will get a quality education that will prepare them to become independent learners, ready to face their futures.”
