Connections Academy Participates in Jumpstart's Read for the Record Global Reading Challenge
October 23, 2015 — Connections Academy students and families from across the country gathered online or in-person on October 22nd to participate in the 10th anniversary of Jumpstart's Read for the Record.
A global campaign to raise awareness of early childhood education and literacy, each year Read for the Record attempts to break the world reading record for most people reading the same book on the same day. This year, over 1,300 Connections Academy students and families at several schools participated in over 20 separate online reading sessions and in-person community service events in honor of Read for the Record.
At Nevada Connections Academy alone, more than 900 students and families from all corners of the state gathered in a LiveLesson online classroom for a special reading of this year’s campaign book, Not Norman: A Goldfish Story. Special guests also took part in the day and hosted reading sessions for students in states throughout the country, such as Nevada State Senator Becky Harris in Nevada, local radio host Jessica Ferguson in Utah, and former BMX pro and X-Games judge John Parker in Arizona.
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record day is a great opportunity for Connections Academy students, families and teachers to meet one another and enjoy a great book while supporting early childhood education options.
