Reach Cyber Charter School Names Principal

Experienced educator Jane Swan to lead state’s newest public cyber school serving students in grades K-9; enrollment now open

Harrisburg, PA (August 12, 2016) Reach Cyber Charter School, a full-time public cyber charter school that will serve students statewide in grades K-9 beginning this fall, has hired accomplished educator Jane Swan as the school’s first principal. Reach Cyber Charter School, a Pennsylvania Connections Academy, will deliver a tuition-free, individualized online learning program to students, complete with flexible pacing options, 21st century learning and STEM-enrichment opportunities.

Swan, a long-time Pennsylvania educator, joins Reach Cyber Charter School with more than 16 years’ experience in both traditional brick-and-mortar and online education settings. Most recently, Swan served as the Director of Academics and Achievement at Agora Cyber Charter School, where she implemented an integrated asynchronous and synchronous model for students and created a Family Coach program to support students and families at the school. Swan also served as the school’s high school Academic Administrator for 8 years, supervising a large staff and facilitating the creation of curriculum for all content areas in grades 9-12.

Prior to working in the online school environment, Swan worked in the traditional brick-and-mortar school setting for 8 years, both as an English teacher and English department chair for Twin Valley High School in Elverson, PA.

“During my time as both a teacher and administrator, I’ve learned the importance of helping students find an education option that best meets their learning needs,” said Swan. “I am extremely excited to be a part of Reach Cyber and look forward to offering this new, innovative, and flexible online learning option to students throughout the state.”

Swan holds a Master of Education degree from Wilkes University as well as a K-12 Principal certification from Cabrini College. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from DeSales University, and has been recognized for her teaching service including a Wal-Mart & Sam’s Club Teacher of the Year award in 2007.

Reach Cyber Charter School, open to students in grades K-9 in the 2016-17 school year, will grow to include grades K-12 by the school’s third year of operation. The school offers enrolled students three flexible pacing options to best meet their learning needs—students can choose to go to school following a traditional calendar, a year-round option, or for high school students, an accelerated schedule. Reach Cyber will also incorporate additional Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) offerings through enrichment opportunities, including community partnerships, participation in STEM competitions and learning activities, guest experts and more.

Learning from home, students will work closely with Pennsylvania-licensed teachers using detailed daily lesson plans that can be personalized to meet their individual needs. Typically, a parent, or another adult “Learning Coach,” chooses to monitor student progress in the home.

A cyber school approach serves a wide range of students, including those who are significantly ahead or behind in the classroom, those who need a flexible schedule or learn at a different pace from their peers, and those who need more individualized attention or live in isolated rural settings. As a public charter school, there are no fees or tuition to attend and all students are required to take the same state assessments as traditional public school students.

Enrollment for the 2016-17 school year is currently underway for students in grades K-9. More information is available at or by calling (800) 382-6010.
