BALTIMORE (November 6, 2012)Connections Education, the leading virtual education provider, has been honored with two national awards for curriculum excellence. A division of Pearson Education, Connections Education was named a winner of two 2012 Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence for its interactive math ‘teachlet’ tutorials, and its state history courses. The 30-year-old recognition program honors software hardware, network, and Web products that include innovative applications that break new ground, as well as those that added significant enhancements to proven education tools.

2012 Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence in the ‘New Product’ category were awarded to the following Connections Education curricula:

  • Math Teachlets – Algebra and Geometry—These online instructional modules help students at Connections Academy virtual public schools understand challenging topics by presenting them in fresh and engaging ways. In naming Connections Education’s award, judges said they “admired the powerful reporting tools, and thought the teachlets had an interesting presentation of content, adding something unique to math classes.”
  • State Signature Courses—Connections Education offers these interactive state-specific history courses to second, third and fourth graders in Connections Academy schools in GA, LA, OK and Utah. They feature virtual timelines, Google Earth tours, and interactive presentations. “The Guild of Inquisitive Robots” guides students through their state histories, delivering content aligned to state history standards, and uses an inquiry-based approach to online instruction. One judge said, “the video vignettes would definitely engage students,” and also observed that “the use of forums is a very creative way to build a learning company.”

The 2012 Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence curriculum honors are the latest in a number of national curriculum accolades Connections Education has recently won, including multiple 2012 EDDIE Awards for its social studies, foreign language and science curricula.
