BALTIMORE, July 12, 2016 – Steven Guttentag, Ph.D., president and co-founder of Connections Education, a leading provider of digital education solutions for students in grades K–12, was presented with a Patriot Award in recognition of his extraordinary support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Jean Hulet, state chair for the Maryland Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), presented the award on June 14.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Jean Hulet Maryland ESGR state chair. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Guttentag was nominated by United States Air Force Reserve (USAFR) Chaplain (Cpt) Jan Alexie “Alex” Calinisan, a teacher with International Connections Academy, Connections Education’s online private school serving students grades K-12 worldwide.

“I would like to formally recognize Dr. Guttentag for providing leadership and guidance that allows Connections Education to go above and beyond what is required by law to support guard and reservist employees. This honor signifies an employer’s understanding of the dangers we face as a country and the lives that are put on the line every day for us to remain free—for freedom has never been free,” said Calinisan. “Connections Education is a very accommodating and supportive organization that is led by true patriots who support the needs of their military members.”

Following the award presentation, Dr. Guttentag signed a Statement of Support for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve.

“Connections Education is committed to supporting its employees and recognizes the sacrifices they make—personally and professionally— to serve in the military. It is an honor to work with individuals, such as Alex, who devote themselves to serving our country and students in grades K-12 across the globe,” Guttentag said.
