Maddie

High School Student

Maddie is a high school student who enrolled in Minnesota Connections Academy in 2018. Her older sister, Abigail, attended Minnesota Connections Academy and had a great learning experience, which inspired Maddie to enroll for her seventh-grade year.

About Me

I’m passionate about music and volunteering. I am in the Student Worship Band at my church, and I play the guitar, piano, and sing in my free time. I also love little kids, so I help at my local public school whenever I can. My family is a foster care family who provides respite care for infants, so I like that Minnesota Connections Academy gives me the ability to help when we have babies in our home.

Why I Chose Minnesota Connections Academy

I had a good elementary school experience at my local brick-and-mortar school because of the connections I had with my teachers. Typically, it's harder in middle and high school to have those connections, so I was apprehensive to attend my local middle school. My older sister tried Minnesota Connections Academy first and had great relationships with her teachers, so I decided to give it a try and ended up loving it too.

My Online High School Experience

The teachers are the reason I stay at Minnesota Connections Academy! They are always reaching out and are available to help whenever I need it. There are also many ways I can contact them, such as using email, LiveLesson, or phone calls. I love that my teachers know who I am and want me to be successful. I cannot say enough good things about the teachers I've had.

My favorite subjects are probably math and science. I love the challenge of solving equations, the fun virtual science experiments, and my teachers who make LiveLessons so interactive. I also really enjoy being part of Student Council because it gives me the opportunity to connect with my peers and organize and plan field trips for the school!

Future Plans

My goal is to attend the University of Northwestern – St. Paul and major in Elementary Education and minor in Music. I plan to attend their PSEO (Postsecondary Education Options) program during my junior and senior year of high school. Minnesota Connections Academy has helped me prepare for my future because it has been a great way for me to learn as well as develop life skills to be a successful student. Minnesota Connections Academy has also given me many opportunities to develop leadership skills through programs such as Student Council and National Junior Honors Society.

I love Minnesota Connections Academy because of the amazing teachers and the flexibility it provides so that I can do outside activities in addition to school.
