High School Student
Angel is a high school student at Minnesota Connections Academy who enrolled in 2016 for her fourth-grade year. With online school, Angel enjoys managing her schoolwork according to her schedule and feels less stressed compared to her previous school experience. She shares her story below:
About Me
I enjoy gaming and drawing, and I do these in my spare time or during breaks. It helps give my brain a break from school, and then I’m able to focus better!
Why I Chose Minnesota Connections Academy
My mom enrolled me for the convenience of not having to get up and go outside in the freezing or smoldering weather of Minnesota winters and summers. We were also interested in the flexibility; I could still do my schoolwork in the evening after a busy day or while visiting relatives in another state for the weekend.
My Online Middle School Experience
The flexible schedule is nice because I can customize when and what I want to work on, which makes it easier for me to handle. I don’t have to stress and worry about getting a lesson done by a certain time while also having to stay caught up on other lessons. However, the end-of-semester deadline is good for when life starts throwing rocks and you lose track of time.
I have the dream student-teacher relationship with my teachers. They keep their teaching methods easy to understand and fun. They’re great at making lessons visual, which is perfect for people like me who are visual learners. As visual learners, we learn better when we see what’s going on physically, like on paper or our screens, and don’t do well when we have to calculate things in our heads.
Science is my favorite subject because of the experiments. I get to learn new facts about plants and animals that I didn’t know existed before or hadn’t heard much about. My favorite experience so far has been the picnic field trip I went to at the end of 5th grade. I met friends and had a fun time playing with everyone. If I remember correctly, we wore plastic flower necklaces or crowns, and I really enjoyed it!
I love Minnesota Connections Academy because it’s less stressful and is just as social, if not more social, than other schools.

My School Schedule
I wake up between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m. and complete my chores and relax. At 8:00 a.m., I start working on lessons, and I attend LiveLesson® sessions as they come. At noon, I take a lunch break and then get back to my schoolwork at 1:00 p.m. 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. is usually my cutoff time, but sometimes I finish my schoolwork before then. 8:30 p.m. is my bedtime. On the weekends, I’m usually out shopping, spending time relaxing, or getting caught up on schoolwork.
