Chris Schwanke

Chris Schwanke is a social studies and personal finance teacher at Minnesota Connections Academy (MNCA). He started teaching in 2011 after graduating from the University of Minnesota–Duluth with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in coaching, and completing his teacher prep at Bermidji State University. Mr. Schwanke shares his story below.

“I became a teacher to have the opportunity to share my passion for social studies with others, and the honor of contributing to students’ lives as they grow and develop thoughts, skills, and values that will later shape our communities and society. I love MNCA because I get to work with my students in small-group and one-on-one settings. A major benefit of online learning is the flexibility available for students, families, and teachers that is built into the system. It allows for a more personalized approach to each student’s education. Responsible, independent, disciplined, and motivated students typically find success in an online environment. The flexibility of online learning at Connections Academy is a great tool, but for a student to truly get the most out of this education, he or she needs to be intrinsically motivated to succeed, willing to put in consistent work, and collaborate with teachers.”
