Rosalyn is a graduate of Minnesota Connections Academy (MNCA). She is from Eagan, Minnesota. The support that Rosalyn received from her MNCA teachers helped her to better grasp the material and excel academically. Learn more about her story below.
Rosalyn was born prematurely and has undefined learning differences that she worked to overcome with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). “She learns a little bit more slowly than everyone else," her mother says. Traditional public schools were not giving her the one-on-one time that the family believed she needed in order to learn. Her mom heard about Minnesota Connections Academy on the radio, and Rosalyn said she was ecstatic when she heard about the opportunity. She started at MNCA in elementary school.
A typical school day was spent at her desk in the living room. Rosalyn spent the day partially on the computer, and partially with textbooks. After starting with MNCA, she made the honor roll three times. Rosalyn says, "I would start at 8 a.m., and go until I all of my classes were done or until I had to go to figure skating. My favorite subject at MNCA was social studies because learned how history is exciting, and I was always learning new things.
I want to open a restaurant when I'm older. It’s going to be called Rosalyn and Lisa’s Restaurant."
In her free-time, Rosalyn likes to play with her dogs, hang out with neighborhood friends, and figure skate.
