April is a 2015 graduate of Minnesota Connections Academy (MNCA). She is from Motley, Minnesota. April enjoyed learning in an environment free of distractions. Her mom shares her story below.
“April is special because she is such a caring person. She doesn’t like to see people get hurt, and she is passionately against bullying. Sadly, she saw firsthand what it was like to be a victim of bullying, but it made her a stronger, more compassionate person. At MNCA, she could learn at home in an environment free of bullying and drama, and could focus on the things she enjoys doing without facing peer pressure.
At her bricks-and-mortar school, April was tired of being bullied and witnessing the drama created by her friends. Her dad and I got some information about MNCA and she thought that it would be a fun thing to do! We knew that she would be able to better concentrate on work if she were at home in a nice, quiet atmosphere, rather than trying to learn in the noisy and chaotic atmosphere of her old school.
April loves language and art. She is very passionate about writing and expressing herself. At MNCA, she loved the laid-back pace of her schoolwork.”
April says, What I liked most about MNCA is that I could take my time on my work; I didn’t feel rushed like I did at my previous school. Also, I could focus on my work. If I missed a LiveLesson® session or didn’t get a lesson the first time, I could listen to it over and over again. I loved the one-on-one attention I got from my teachers. They made me feel special, not just like a number in the school system. I feel that they knew me and that I was important.”
