Keeping Online School Students Connected

Contrary to what some may think, students at Lighthouse Connections Academy (LCA) are connected to a community of students. Meeting regularly in online LiveLesson® sessions, our students have the opportunity to compare experiences, share ideas, and just have fun together learning. Students can choose the level of social interaction they feel comfortable with and participate accordingly in clubs, gatherings, and extracurricular activities.

LCA gives our students many opportunities to meet and interact with each other through learning, whether on field trips, special school events, or school clubs. These opportunities for socialization allow students to explore the world around them while getting to know other students. They also help students learn teamwork, develop communication and leadership skills, and gain social confidence. Plus, they’re just plain fun for students!

Allowing Flexibility for Extracurriculars

Families are an essential part of the virtual school experience, and we understand that the same routine doesn’t work for each one, which is why at LCA, we give students and parents the freedom to build a schedule that revolves around their own interests and schedule, whether that includes sports, volunteer work, performing arts, or other pursuits.

Working with Families

Families are an essential part of the virtual school experience, and we understand that the same routine doesn’t work for each one, which is why at LCA, we give students and parents the freedom to build a schedule that revolves around their own interests and schedule, whether that includes sports, volunteer work, performing arts, or other pursuits.

Parents play an especially important role as Learning Coach, helping their student remain on track, while maintaining regular communication with teachers.

Families can easily connect with community coordinators, school counselors, teachers, and other parents online or in person through:

  • Learning Coach online training, local teaching centers, and open houses
  • Club ORANGE, a network of LCA parents who remain very involved in the LCA community
  • Secure Message Boards where parents can ask questions, request tips, and share resources to help students succeed
  • Virtual Learning Connections blog, which offers a variety of topics beneficial for LCA families

Participating in the Online Learning Community at Large

At LCA, it’s important to us that our students know they’re a part of a much broader online school community. With the help of community coordinators and Learning Coaches, we arrange regular volunteer activities and participating in other events in communities throughout Michigan.
