Maine Connections Academy is a great fit for Serha’s both sons, who are heavily involved in hockey, which requires them to practice almost every day. Besides a more flexible schedule, they really appreciate warm teachers who are always ready to help.
We are a hockey family! Both of our sons play year-round, all over New England and Canada. My oldest son, Samuel, 16, is in 11th grade. He is a defenseman on his varsity hockey team. My youngest son, Hunter, 14, is in 8th grade. He is a goalie who plays competitive hockey in the Portland area. They both have been playing competitive hockey for the past 10 years. My husband and I decided to enroll our children in Maine Connections Academy (MCA) in 2014 because of the flexibility it provides for our busy schedule. We have hockey practices and games six to seven days a week, so knowing that our boys are able to rotate schedules if needed, go ahead with future assignments, complete tests or quizzes, etc., is useful. We also wanted to have our children learn in a fun, distraction-free atmosphere that provided them with the ability to really grasp the concepts of the challenging curriculum.
The MCA staff are so warm and welcoming when there are questions and concerns from students and parents, and that is just so appreciated. They want to teach your children. You don’t easily find such a great group of teachers who are so willing to take the time to really understand and focus on your child’s needs. They provide so much help and patience that my boys are excited to go to school. My children are being challenged. They did attend a brick-and-mortar school for several years until I pulled them out to homeschool them, given that I didn’t like that school’s atmosphere. At MCA, it’s nice to see the staff putting the student’s needs at the top of the list. The curriculum is challenging and demanding, but it is also full of fun. Having different ways to approach each lesson makes my boys want to learn. Even better than the curriculum are my sons’ teachers. Their teachers are wonderful! They hold LiveLesson® sessions every week to allow my sons and their classmates to learn together in virtual classrooms. The teachers record these lessons so that if we miss one or need a refresher, we can watch it later. Message boards share lesson modifications and other important information that my children can watch in case they had questions on anything or just needed a refresher. Our sons are very comfortable WebMailing or calling their teachers when they have questions or require a little extra help. Teachers are great about responding to them promptly.
