Christopher White is a middle and high school teacher at Maine Connections Academy (MCA). He graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in education. Mr. White started his teaching career in 2012 and joined MCA in 2016. He currently teaches social studies, world history, honors world history, and psychology. Mr. White loves the connections he is able to make with his students at MCA. He explains below what he enjoys about teaching in the Connections Academy community.
“My first experiences in education were as a guitar instructor. I taught both children and adults who ranged from beginner to intermediate level. I enjoyed prepping for each individual student by always trying to stay one step ahead of him or her. Before long, many of my students began teaching me! The satisfaction of playing a part in someone’s growth led me to pursue teaching history and social studies—subjects I have always loved.
MCA is great place to teach. I get to work with amazing students who have a variety of talents and come from all walks of life. Plus, I get the benefit of working with the most positive and motivating group of teachers.
In an online school, classes are truly student-centered. Students can work at a pace that suits them with rigorous subject material and access teachers quickly. LiveLesson® sessions, lessons in a real-time online classroom, are a great place for students to connect with classmates and teachers, and to have fun.
A quality education opens a student’s life up to any kind of possibility. Even though many high school graduates do not yet know what they will do with their lives, Connections Academy helps them develop the skills and knowledge that will serve as the foundation of whatever path they decide to pursue.
We provide many opportunities for students to get to know each other and their teachers, including LiveLesson sessions and in-person field trips. I feel that we are part of a vibrant school community where students find positivity, encouragement, and acceptance.
Connections Academy provides a unique experience for students and parents. Whatever the reason for pursuing an online school, students should come prepared to work and think critically, and parents should know that they can be more involved in their child’s education. There are also always people readily available to help, whether it’s a school content or technical issue.”
When Mr. White is not teaching, he enjoys spending time with his family, going outdoors, tinkering with an antique motorcycle, and making music.
