Katie Sullivan is an elementary teacher at Iowa Connections Academy (IACA). She started teaching in 2007 and joined the school in 2018. Ms. Sullivan graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education with a reading and language arts endorsement from Central College. She is currently finishing her talented and gifted endorsement from Morningside College and is also working toward her master’s degree. Ms. Sullivan shares her teaching journey below:

“I knew from an early age that I love teaching and helping others. My dad was an eighth grade history teacher, and I would spend a lot of time in his classroom helping him before and after school. As I got older, I was involved with activities, jobs, and opportunities where I got to work with children and in education. It became more and more clear that I wanted to be an elementary school teacher.

Iowa Connections Academy provides a personalized education with flexibility and extended opportunities for students and families with highly educated and compassionate teachers.

— Ms. Sullivan

I absolutely love working at Iowa Connections Academy due to the working culture and the students and families. My coworkers are so passionate about the school and making sure all students know they belong and are fully supported. Our school community is special because we are like one big family.

Iowa Connections Academy does many things to help prepare students for a bright and successful future. The individualized approach, advanced courses and opportunities, college courses, and teachers who help encourage and challenge students all contribute to student success. There are so many benefits to teaching at an online school versus a brick-and-mortar school, but my top two would be the individualized relationships I build with my students and their families and the flexibility and opportunities we provide for them.”

Ms. Sullivan is married with three daughters. They are very involved in activities, and she enjoys supporting them. Her other hobbies include spending time with her friends and family, playing games, traveling, being outdoors, and watching sports.
