Dashom Hong began her teaching career at Iowa Connections Academy in 2020. She currently teaches math for grades 6–9. Mrs. Hong shares her story below!
Why I Became a Teacher
I became a teacher because I want to support students who struggle in math. I know math is a difficult subject and it’s
the least favorite subject for many students, but I want to try my best to help students develop mathematical thinking
and relate it to their everyday lives.
The Online School Experience
Since students can work at their own pace, they develop independence and a sense of responsibility. They learn how to be
proactive by reaching out to teachers whenever they have any questions or need help. I love having the flexibility and
the opportunity to have more one-on-ones with a student than in a brick-and-mortar school.
Transitioning to online school can be difficult in the beginning, but all the teachers are here to help and support you.
Remember that you are not alone and we want every student to be successful!
