Christina Andresen

Middle School Science Teacher

Christina Andresen is a science teacher at Iowa Connections Academy. She joined the school in 2019 but has been teaching since 2012. Ms. Andresen earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in elementary/middle level education and earned her masters of education in adolescent literacy and technology from Walden University. She shares her teaching journey below:

“I had a few teachers who made a great impact on my life by being considerate and caring. I wanted to be that rock/bright spot for someone else. I love teaching at Iowa Connections Academy because from the minute I walked through the door, I felt like I entered into a new family. The other teachers and the support you are surrounded by makes a teacher feel welcomed. It’s a great place to try new ideas and take risks, all to bring students the best personalized educational experience possible.

“I love the personal feel of education through Connections Academy®. In a typical school setting, students may get ‘lost in the cracks.’ There are a lot of distractions in a brick-and-mortar school. When it comes to Connections Academy, families have the flexibility to manage coursework and fit in breaks without having to worry about when lunch is or when the bell will ring. At Connections Academy, we take great pride in getting to know the students and making sure each and every one feels successful in an online environment. We also have a great opportunity to host in-person school events across the state.

Our community is special because it has people from all around the state. Everyone is different, yet they all CHOSE to be at Connections Academy. This allows students and families to connect with each other and form bonds as they move through their education. The families are so excited to help one another out and are supportive of each other throughout any process.

— Ms. Andresen

“Students are not just a number at Connections Academy. Teachers build relationships with students and make sure that they have all the tools to be successful no matter where life leads them outside of school.”

Ms. Andresen lives on a ranch with her husband Matt, their son Miles, a dog, some cats, cows, and a chicken named Queenie. In her spare time, she loves spending time outdoors and taking care of all their family’s little creatures.
