Anna Stevens Shourds
Anna is a high school student at Indiana Connections Academy (INCA). She lives on an old-style farm in Spencer County, Indiana. Anna loves the freedom that INCA allows so that she can participate in her many hobbies. Her mother shares more below.
“When Anna found out that she would move from the bricks-and-mortar school to INCA, she was so excited—not because she didn’t like her school, but because now she can do her schoolwork anywhere, any time,” she says. Due to family health considerations, Anna and her family spend several weeks in Florida every winter. INCA allows her to keep up with her schoolwork without disrupting the entire class.
Her mom notes that Anna also benefits from having a more flexible schedule. “Outside of school, Anna stays busy with Girl Scouts, swimming, singing with the Kentucky Youth Chorale, practicing her flute, reading, and keeping up with her 20+ 4-H projects. Living on a farm, she has her own bantam chickens, heritage hogs, meat rabbits, dairy goats, beehive, cat, and heifer calf to care for. She also helps care for the family’s other livestock and two acres of gardens.”
It’s great to have the flexibility that INCA allows to enjoy school and incorporate school lessons into the family lifestyle, and vice versa.
