Stacy Taylor

INCA parent Stacy

Stacy is the Learning Coach and mother of twin boys who attend Indiana Connections Academy (INCA). As high-schoolers, Dimitri and Wyatt are thriving at INCA.

Stacy says, "I love INCA because I love having my kids at home during the day. They are getting a great education and studying hard, but school doesn’t dominate our family time in the evenings. I love the freedom of going to shows and doing other activities during the week without worrying about bedtimes and homework. We get to be a family all year long, not just in the summer!" She tells her story below.

"In July of 2010, as I was going through the stack of mail, I found a flier for INCA. I looked into the program and talked about the program with a couple of my friends who are teachers. I decided to submit the enrollment information, then talk to the kids about it, and then make a decision. When I talked to my twins, they were very excited about the possibility of attending INCA. The boys had both expressed an interest in the past about being homeschooled. At that point, we decided they would attend INCA.

I have worked from home for several years. Dimitri and Wyatt are both asthmatic and have averaged missing 10 days of school each year, which have all been medically excused. I also found out at the end of the last school year that the biggest issue with their grades was in-class work. They were rushing through work in the classroom to go socialize afterward. With these factors in mind, I had hoped that during the course of this school year, the boys could ‘unlearn’ some of the bad habits they had picked up from their previous school and really focus on their studies. I want to see them learn the material and not just rush through it to complete a task.

With my working from home, I am here to oversee what they are doing, but there is no way I could actually teach them the subjects. I also didn’t want the responsibility of choosing a curriculum. With this program, we have the best of both worlds. They are learning at home, and we can focus on whatever they need to work on. If it takes eight hours to complete a writing assignment, then they can do that and work a few extra hours to catch up for the rest of the week. We also have our evenings to spend together as a family instead of stressing about homework and bedtimes. For the most part, we start at about the same time each day, and the kids work through their assignments."
