Why She Became a Teacher
“I was drawn to teaching because it was a place [where] I could give back to my community using my given talents and strengths,” Ms. Allen says.
“You become a part of the student’s family at this school in a way that doesn’t happen in traditional face-to-face schools. That happens when you are fulfilling a need in a child’s life or a family’s life.”
Ms. Allen believes teaching online helps foster effective relationships with students and families because it filters out distractions that people can get hung up on. “Who you are comes through in your words and actions more clearly when you have to make your true self known from behind the screen,” she explains.
"The most rewarding part of working at Georgia Connections Academy is being able to help students more than just academically."
