Elementary School Teacher

Bachelor's Degree, Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education, University of West Florida; Master's Degree, Exceptional Student Education with Minor in Reading, University of West Florida

Ms. Stewart began teaching in 2003. She taught third grade at Coastal Connections Academy from 2012-2016, and has been teaching fourth grade at the school since 2021. She talks about her experience at the school below.

Why I Became a Teacher

I decided to become a teacher while working as a substitute teacher during my break between attending community college and the University of West Florida. I was hired as a long-term substitute in a “varying exceptionalities” class. I loved the students so much, I changed my major from pharmacy to special education.

I love working at Coastal Connections Academy because the students are phenomenal. I’ve grown close to many of my students and their families and love the flexibility and opportunities I have to form close bonds with them.

The Online School Experience at Coastal Connections Academy

One way the school fosters student engagement with their courses is by hosting LiveLesson® sessions, where teachers interact with students in real time. This really helps students in their coursework and encourages communication and interaction between students and teachers.

Students here are prepared for a bright and successful future because they learn to be active participants in their own education and learning. They learn valuable communication skills that will serve them well as they grow and enter the workforce as adults. If parents want more control over their child’s education while also giving them flexibility to work at their own pace, Connections Academy® is the way to go.
